Air Quality Management
Whilst much attention is given towards poor air quality outdoors, created by industrial and vehicle emissions, we sometimes forget that we spend up to 90% of our time indoors. It is therefore vital to ensure the air that we are breathing whilst in our homes and workplaces is clean and safe.
The UK has one of the highest rates of asthma in the world. It is now recognised that house dust mites and their faeces are some of the primary allergens that aggravate the symptoms of asthma. Dust mites require a moist (or humid) atmosphere to survive, and unfortunately many of today's buildings are poorly ventilated and often contain high relative humidity levels.
Humidity & Condensation Control
Humid conditions are also conducive to condensation and mould growth, which present further threats to respiratory health.
ProTen Services can help you breathe easier, using a range of systems to provide better ventilation and humidity control.
Condensation occurs when warm, moist air (such as that produced by boiling a kettle or having a shower) hits a cold surface. The colder air is, the less moisture it can hold, and so when the air hits the cold surface, it releases some of its moisture, forming beads of condensation.
When moisture, such as condensation, is present on a surface, this presents the ideal conditions for mould to grow. Black and green moulds are commonly found in areas where condensation is rife, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
To reduced condensation and subsequent mould growth, the amount of moist air present needs to be reduced. Attempts can be made to do this by opening windows, running dehumidifiers or increasing the heating in the property. These methods are often not favoured by occupants, however, for comfort or energy-usage reasons.
ProTen Services' solution to this problem is to install Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) systems, which minimise energy wastage and potentially even bring energy cost savings. These units extract the warm, moist air from inside the building, but have the ability to retain the heat from the outgoing air and transfer it to the fresh, dry air as it is drawn in. Studies have shown that this will typically reduce total energy consumption by approximately 10%, not only because the already heated air is not being wasted, but because drier air is cheaper to heat than moist air.
Such units use very little electricity (approximately £5 per year), which is much cheaper than the running costs of a dehumidifier.
ProTen Services can install and maintain a whole range of units, suitable for any sized home or workplace. Below are datasheets on just two examples of such units.
