Radon in Basements

Radon gas enters buildings through the surfaces that are in contact with the ground. If a property has a basement, or other area with earth-retaining walls, then the surface area in contact with the ground is significantly increased. This means that the property is more susceptible to containing high levels of the naturally occurring radioactive gas, radon.

Traditionally it has been difficult to control radon levels in basements, as there is a danger that simply excluding it from the basement will displace the gas to the accommodation above. Any basement area will also need effective waterproofing if it is to be used for living or working accommodation.

Aquis Double Defence Waterproofing (ADD Waterproofing) is a unique system developed by ProTen Services that combines both waterproofing to the British Standard and control of radon gas.

ADD is the only system available that will ensure a basement is not only dry but, more importantly, free from high levels of radon gas.
