Concrete Repair Scheme to Frontage Cills due to Ongoing Corrosion
Client: Public Sector Council
Property Type: Local community centre.
The survey showed repairs had been attempted before but water penetration had continued to penetrate causing ongoing corrosion and further expansion of the concrete so the damage had become extensive. Shelling and de-bonding was evident, frontage cills were loose and falling away and large cracks were present through to the internal structural steels.
The loose concrete was removed and the steelwork beneath exposed. Due to the level of corrosion the original steel rods were removed and replaced with new stainless steel Helifix Reinforcing Bars. The cills were repaired and built out to match the original profile. Pores, cracks and surface fissures were filled to prevent future corrosion and a lasting repair.
Flexcrete Bridging Agent, Flexcrete Monolite, Helifix – HeliBar Stainless Steel Reinforcing Bar.
A long lasting repair scheme, preventing any future risk from water entering into the cills. ProTen’s Newcastle Regional Surveyor Ian Fraser comments ‘A big challenge was carrying out the repairs in adverse conditions within a short timeframe. Flexcrete products were specified due to their quick drying times and superior performance demonstrating how our approved contractor status with major manufacturers allows us to specify and apply the best materials that are right for the project.’Back to Case Studies
