Project Summary

ProTen Services were invited to submit an external rendering specification, and subsequently instructed to carry out, the installation of a Wetherby Insulation Render system on a social housing development in Skipton.

Overview

The proposed system included the removal of all loose current render, the installation of WBS Epsitherm 60mm insulation and the application of a new render backing coat with pebble dashing.

Works Programme

Prior to installation of the Wetherby Render System, the old render was hacked off. Although some render could not be removed without damaging the brick work, the Wetherby system allowed for levelling out with subsequent coats of render and insulation boards.

A plumber was instructed to adjust the length of the soil, drainage, overflow and gas pipes plus boiler flues ready to accommodate the insulation board.

The WBS Epsitherm 60mm insulation boards were placed on the external brick work and attached using 115mm ISO Green fixings as required. The boards were placed just above the DPC up to the guttering height.

A render backing coat of WBS BF Scrim Adhesive was applied with corner bead around reveals. This was followed by the WBS Premium Alkali Resist Scrim Cloth. The second coat of WBS Dashing BFHP White Render was applied to receive the pebble dashing. This was applied by hand by throwing the pebbles onto the wet WBS Dashing BFHP. Over sills were installed where the current sill was not large enough to cover the additional 60mm board and then fixed with silicon.

Result

The compromised render was removed and replaced with a non-crack Wetherby Insulation Render system. The system provided a superior finish whilst protecting the property against penetrating damp, improving insulation and reducing the risk against condensation by raising the thermal quality of the external walls and so warming the internally walls/plaster surface.
